Dragon Age II's Hawke is customizable, can be female

(added last year!)

Following our announcement of Dragon Age II with details on lead character Hawke, you were worried character customization options would be absent. Thankfully, this is not the case and as suspected, BioWare is mashing the two systems of their flagship RPG series' Mass Effect  and Dragon Age together.

The new system does put you into a pre-determined role, even eliminating your ability to choose race (Hawke is human), however you can still choose a class and customize him...or her. Not sure Hawke is such a great name for a lady, but we digress.

Another major point of interest is this time around, the lead will be fully voiced. Though we loved the system in the original Dragon Age, many would admit it did feel somewhat unnatural. Is this good enough reason for change? You decide.

Finally, it seems the RPG sequel will not be going the typical route plot-wise. Don't expect this installment and multiple other sequels and spin-offs to be tired rehashings of the struggle against the Blight -- there's not even an "ancient evil" to go after in number two. Rather, Hawke himself will be the focus here. It'll be interesting to see if his background as a survivor of the Blight -- and later, Champion of the Free Marches township Kirkwall -- provides for a story equal or superior to its predecessor's.
