NZ's Popular PC Gaming Team adds Xbox 360 divisions

Posted in : Updates

(added few years ago!)

New Zealand's online gaming team Team Sidewinder (TSW) has increased its professional gaming arsenal with the signing of two new Xbox 360 teams.
A New Zealand first, the move will see top PC and Xbox 360 gamers compete under a common banner.

TSW co-founder Mark 'Atrocity' Pette says, "Xbox 360 gaming is becoming more competitive and it's an exciting opportunity for both PC and console divisions to work together towards promoting competitive, online and professional gaming."

The new teams will compete in Halo 3 and Gears of War, led by experienced gamers 'Kurtiz' 'Papple' and 'Midnite'. Both teams have excelled in the past, and members are among the favourites in the World Cyber Games qualifiers later this year.

"We have all been waiting for an opportunity like this for what seems like years now," says Papple. "All of us are very excited to be a part of Team Sidewinder and will definitely be stepping up our game now. I believe we should beat any other Halo 3 team in New Zealand at the moment, and hopefully with TSW's backing we can go further and show other countries what we are really made of."

Video Game Industry Picks a War Game as Its Best

Posted in : New Games

(added few years ago!)

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, the high-octane antiterrorism thriller developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision, took top honors on Thursday night at the 11th annual Interactive Achievement Awards, the video game industry’s equivalent of the Oscars.

Call of Duty 4, released in November for PCs, the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, is the first game in this acclaimed series that is not set during World War II. Thought to be risky at first, the game’s modern setting and story line involving deranged ultranationalist Russians, loose nuclear bombs and a Middle Eastern coup have made it a commercial and critical success. Activision has said the game has sold more than seven million copies across its various systems.

New Nintendo Wii Boom Blox Debut Trailer from Steven Spielberg game

Posted in : New Games

(added few years ago!)

The all new Nintendo Wii game called Boom Blox which is a Steven Spielberg game, this new game releases May 2008. Oh boy Steven Spielberg is invading video games with characters as BLOX (Blocks).

Ok the game looks fun after watching the video which is shown below, but come on with massive films under Steven Spielberg’s belt you would have thought epic games would have been made, you know something with a kick in it, something strong with a great storyline behind it.

The game will have more than 300 levels, “a cast of over thirty wacky characters” and it seems to be built around letting players take on “Blox-laying chickens or…baseball-throwing monkeys” or even more stranger cartoon like grim reapers in tiki, medieval, frontier, or haunted themed settings.

Watch the video below and please do comment as I would love to know what you think of this garbage. Ok sorry maybe it is not garbage maybe it is good. I just think he could have given us something special.

(added few years ago!)
Jan 10th 2007 2:00PM by Peter RojasFiled under: Gaming"Champagne Gold" wasn't exactly our first choice for a new PSP color -- it's a little nouveau riche for our blood -- but Sony will be rolling it out in Japan on February 22nd, adding it to their current line up of black, white, pink, silver & blue models. No word on if, or when, it might be released here in the States, but Sony hasn't been very good about introducing new PSP colors over here

Week in Video-Game News

Posted in : Contest

(added few years ago!)

I really like Electronic Arts' "Battlefield" games, although I have to admit that I'm a little intimidated when it comes to playing with strangers over the Internet. I suspect a lot of gamers secretly feel the same way; it's fun to go to war by yourself, but who wants to go online just to be called a girlie-man by some hyper-aggressive 10-year-old?

That's why I welcome the fresh approach that EA is taking with its forthcoming "Battlefield Heroes." First, it's appealingly cartoony, closer to Valve's "Team Fortress" than Microsoft's grittier "Halo 3." Second, EA promises it will be easy to pick up and play, and that gamers of equal skill levels will be matched up to ensure fairer competition.

Most important, EA will be offering "Battlefield Heroes" free. It's the company's first experiment in its new "Play 4 Free" business model, in which the company hopes to make money through advertising and online sales of new gear, like armor and weapons.

2008: The PlayStation Evolution

Posted in : New Games

(added few years ago!)

Since the release of PSP, Sony's been about creating platforms that aren't just for gaming. Right now, both the PSP and PS3 are great for playing back movies, music, and displaying photos when you're taking a break from button-bashing madness. Here's how Sony plans to turn its PSP / PS3 combo into a real force to be reckoned with in 2008.

Sony has huge, on-going plans to evolve and enhance what both PlayStation platforms can do. It starts with PS3 becoming the centre of all your 'digital lifestyle' and feeding that down to the portable PSP. So much so that Sony hopes you'll be using a PlayStation branded product as part of your everyday life.

Guinness Set For Gaming Release

Posted in : New Games

(added few years ago!)

As if we needed any more proof that the gaming industry is reaching epic proportions, the Guiness Book of World Records today stated that the organization is set to release an entire book dedicated solely to the games world. The publication will be dubbed Guiness Book of Records: Gamer’s Edition 2008 and will hit store shelves on March 11.

Included among the records that gamers can find are of course some well-known gaming facts such as Ms. Lara Croft being the “Most Recognizable Female Character”, or Counter-Strike as the “Most Successful Game Mod Ever”. But gamers can also find answers to more obscure facts such as that Eidos’ Just Cause has the “Largest Action-Adventure Environment” or that the Counter-Strike clan ‘Ninjas in Pyjamas’ is the first clan to be represented by a sports agent.
